Goodhertz co-founder Rob Stenson finds time most days to make a loop in Ableton, usually with the aim of testing out whatever plugin is currently in development at Goodhertz. And by “test” we mean stress test: take those plugins to the outer extremes of what they can do.

In May of 2020, when the earliest prototypes of what would become Tupe were first being coded, Rob started trying those prototypes on all kinds of sounds (though, no matter the genre, there's usually a drum machine in there, and most likely a C Maj 7 chord on a guitar, and at least half of these are at 120, AKA the iconic default tempo).

So what is Loop Journal #1? 31 loops from the making of Tupe — short loops that, in the moment, drove Tupe's development; short loops that now showcase the outer reaches of the gnarly sounds that Tupe produces.
